Our Competition

The HTML WYSIWYG market is becoming full of competing products. You could spend hours searching the Internet for competing products or you can just use the list below. If you think another product is better than ours we would like to know why. Also, if you find a product that is not listed then let us know and we can add it to the list.

Where possible we have provided 'deep links' so you can go straight to the demo rather than through their front page. The products are listed alphabetically. Please keep a list of the HTML Rich Text Area's features in mind while reviewing these products.

Product Features

ActiveEdit
  • They have won some Cold Fusion awards
  • Optionally includes a spell checker (The HTML Rich Text Area is integrated with the Web Browser Spell Check)
  • Some documentation and support

  • Relatively few features
  • No document uploading or image library
  • Hitting 'Enter' creates a <p> tag which appears like a double space. (this drives users nuts)
  • You are forced to enter your email address to evaluate the product.
  • They have a concept of open and closed source. To make modifications you need the open source version which is prohibitively expensive. The HTML Rich Text Area is open source (except the evaluation version which has obfuscated source code)

  • It's free (based on BSD license). [ This product appears to be identical to the one above. The one above is truly free. This one requires that you keep the original copyright notice to www.interactivetools.com. The help is the same too. This may be totally legitimate as it may be written by the same person but there is nothing to suggest this. ]
